2022 Cruise Moab Overnighter Details & FAQ's
Basic Event Information
The Wasatch Cruisers & Cruiser Outfitters are proud to be sponsoring the 2022 Cruise Moab San Rafael Swell Overnight Run, lead by Dave Wilson, Kurt Williams and assisted by members of the Wasatch Cruisers. The run starts Wednesday morning (April 27th), we ask that you plan to be at our Lone Warrior base camp no later than 7:30 am on Wednesday (4/27) if you will need to have your tech inspection performed, or 8:30 am if you took care of your tech inspection in Moab on Tuesday with Rising Sun. We will be departing for our Wednesday trail ride at 9am sharp. You are welcome to arrive to our base camp anytime on Tuesday, some of our trail leaders will be at camp around noon (April 26th) to greet incoming participants and start preparing for the event however this is not part of the official event and there will be no organized activities happening this day/evening. We ask that you spend a few minutes before leaving home to familiarize yourself with the area primarily the route to camp. Most of the area is without cell reception, so please plan ahead.
Please have your tank full or near full when you arrive to camp. You can fuel up from Green River along I-70 to the east, Salina along I-70 to the west or Castle Dale along SR-10 to the northwest. For those with less than a 250 mile off-road fuel range, we suggest that you bring along extra fuel to cover your needs. The campsite and trails we will be covering are a 2 hour round trip from the nearest fuel, food, ice, etc. Depending on the weather, our group speed, etc, we might not do all of the trails or we might change our plans on the fly so please be patient with minor changes to our agenda.
Registration and Tech Inspection: We will be performing registration for the overnighter and tech inspections for those that plan to come directly to our base camp and not to Moab. Please review the tech inspection information provided by Rising Sun & the TLCA prior to departing for the event. If you plan to get your tech inspection performed at our base camp remember that we are over a two hour round trip from any type of auto parts store, even a small repair could easily take several hours. Please have your vehicle prepared before you leave home.

About the Lone Warrior Area & Campsite:
The Lone Warrior Campsite is a primitive BLM camping area in the heart of the San Rafael Swell. This site does not have improved features such as a rest rooms, however we will be providing portable facilities in the form of portable toilets, you will be required to pack all of your own waste in provided bags. There is a vault toilet approximately 5 minutes from our camping location, we highly recommend using this as an alternative to the portable toilet whenever possible. We will arrange attendees based on your arrival and your camping needs. There should be adequate room for everybody but you may be a short walk from the common campfire area. The nearest services (food, fuel & lodging) is ~1 hour away in Green River, for obvious reasons we are asking that all participants plan to camp with the group in our designated camping area. The surrounding area was once the home and hunting grounds to several generations of Native Americans and within a short walk is the picturesque "Lone Warrior Petroglyph" and several other historical sites.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What if I need to cancel or make changes to my registration?
Please let us know and give the Rising Sun registration staff a call asap. We are not handling any of the registration process nor can we answer questions about trail availability. Keep in mind the overnighter was completely booked this year, if your not going to be able to make it please let us know asap so we can plan accordingly and Rising Sun can try and arrange a spot for the person next in line.
Where is the closest fuel?
Green River to the east along I-70, Salina to the west along I-70, Castle Dale or Price to the north along SR10 and Hanksville to the south along SR24. Please arrive to camp with plenty of fuel for the two days on the trail as a trip to either location is several hours away. Green River or Salina would be ideal as your heading to base camp on the Tuesday as our camp is very close to I-70. We will be exiting the Swell to the south on Thursday afternoon so Hanksville or Green River would be good choices for those continuing on to Moab.
Will there be room for a friend to join along?
Absolutely, however not in their own vehicle, they must be riding with you. There is not room on our BLM permit for additional vehicles, this includes tow rigs, trailers, camp trailers, etc. Only the rig you'll be driving in will be allowed at the base camp. Just to clarify all vehicles both in camp and along for the trail driving need to be part of the registered Cruise Moab event.
Where can I park my tow rig or motor home?
You will need to sort this out ahead of time. Our BLM permit does not allow any additional vehicles at or near our Lone Warrior base camp, this includes tow rigs, a second vehicle you may be bringing down or a motor home. We suggest that you find a place in either Green River or Moab to park your tow rig if applicable. Keep in mind that this event includes a considerable amount of highway travel and street-licensed and insured vehicles are a must. Please let us know asap if you don't fall under this criteria and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
Will we be camping more than one night? Both at the same site?
Yes, we will be camping both Tuesday (4/26) and Wednesday (4/27) nights. We will have a camp host staying at the campground both days we are out on the trail, so there should be no issue leaving your gear unattended. Plan your camping arrangements accordingly. For those with roof-top-tents or other vehicle based sleeping solutions, please plan to wake with enough time to stow all of your gear for the day so we can depart for our trails on schedule. The Lone Warrior area is primitive camping however vault toilets are available approximately 5 minutes away at Swazey's Cabin.
Will there be room at the campsite for a small travel trailer?
Preferably no, again our BLM permit is very strict in regards to both our camping and off-road travel. If you're already planning to bring an offroad camp trailer, please let us know asap and we will do our best to accommodate you with a spot. Keep in mind 4WD may be necessary just to get to our campsite, so your standard camp trailer wouldn't be appropriate to try and reach our base camp safely or travel the routes we will be exploring on Thursday as we make our way back to Moab. If a travel trailer is mandatory for your needs, we may ask that you choose an alternative route(s) as to not impede the movement of the group particularly on our travel from camp to Moab on Thursday.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, dogs are allowed in the San Rafael Swell area. We ask that they be kid friendly and safe around other dogs in camp. We also ask that you be respectful of others and make sure to clean up after your pet. Dogs cannot be left unattended at camp during the day, please plan to take them along with you. Remember this is the desert bring plenty of water for yourself and your pets.
What do I need to bring?
All of your own food (Breakfasts, Lunches and Dinners), water, cooking supplies, fuel, spare parts, tools and camping gear. You are on your own for meals. If your vehicle has less than a ~250 mile range (off-road travel), please plan on extra fuel. Bring a camp chair to sit around the campfire and camp games such as horse-shoes if you desire. Our camp environments have been very social in the past so if you have a favorite drink, cigar or hors d'oeuvres you would like to share with the group, bring it along!
What should I leave home?
There will be no fireworks, target shooting, inappropriate music or anything illegal allowed in camp or on the trail. Alcohol consumption will absolutely not be tolerated on the trail, please save it for camp. We will be covering all of the firewood needs, so don't worry about that either.
What CB Channel? HAM Frequency?
Channel 20 on the FRS Radio & Frequency 145.570 simplex on the 2M HAM. All vehicles will be required to have a working 2M radio or FRS unit this year, please make sure yours is up and working properly prior to departing for the event. We will also be monitoring the Bruin Point 2M HAM repeater: Bruin Point, Repeater Callsign: K7SDC, Output Frequency: 147.320 MHz ,Input Frequency: 147.920 MHz, Offset: +600 kHz, Status: Open, CTCSS: 88.5 Hz.
