Day 1 - Thursday:
Picked up Candace in Provo
at 5:00, took our time up the canyon pulling the trailer and eventually
ran into Troy and Scott just as we got off the Green River exit. We enjoyed
dinner at Rays Tavern, and then finished off the drive to Moab.
Day 2 - Friday:
We woke up early enough
to catch the continental breakfast at the hotel and give the Cruiser a
quick once over. With everything in order we topped off the tanks and met
up with the crew at the movie theater in town. Captain Connors (David)
offered to lead Kane Creek, we we were off. The trail was great, we passed
just a few other rigs on the trail, and the weather inside the Cruiser
was great. A little bit of snow made some of the climbs and off camber
spots a little interesting. We were of the trail by early afternoon and
back in town. As I arrived back to the hotel I spoke with Mr. Jason Call
who had suffered a strike of bad luck on his way south. Turns out he had
lost his rear driveshaft and destroyed his rear carrier in the meantime,
leaving the Cruiser immobile. I offered to help him get it all taken care
of, and quite honestly Jason did most of the work himself. With the axle
complete (ready for flat tow), we cleaned up and headed to the WC Pizza
party...
Enjoyed pizza & chat
with the club and headed back to the hotel. Dave C. had suggested we might
try a night run... Cody Morgan agreed to show us around Porcupine Rim,
the first mile of off camber trail in the snow lead to a change in mind.
So instead we bombed up Sand Flats Road in the snow. We made it just a
couple miles before the snow was too deep. Snow busting is always a good
time, every better when Andre's tire falls off and I can't keep my laughter
down. With Andre's tire back on, we returned to town for the night.
Day 3 - Saturday:
Once again we met at the
movie theater in the morning to plan the days adventures. Flat Iron Mesa
came up and I offered to lead it with the help of James Trinniman and his
GPS as none of us had ever run the trail. We motored on down to the trailhead,
aired down and got to work. I must say that James and his GPS made the
day, we only got off course a few minor times. The entire group made it
through Tilt-a-Whirl and Easter Egg Hill unscathed! We enjoyed some local
flavor live music back at Woody's in town.
Day 4 - Sunday:
We met up with Andre &
Cary, Scott & ?? for breakfast at the Jailhouse Cafe (good eatin').
After that we decided to stop by the Moab Rock Shop where we spent the
next hour talking rocks and Cruisers with one of the employees. Form there
we decided to make a run through Arches on the way home. We briefly checked
out the visitors center, and then hit the pavement for an "auto" tour.
After checking out all the sites, we hit up Salt Wash and a part of Klondike
Bluffs back to Hwy. 191, the mud was insane the last 10 miles. A quick
car wash in Green River and we slowly motored on back to SLC in the snow.
Great trip!
